Most shopping carts, most content mangement systems, and most hosting companies provide a platform adequate for solid growth into a middle-tier Internet entity. Many are scalable all the way to a top tier site.

Many providers of SEO or SEM services, vendors of Shopping Carts, and installers of advanced Content Management Systems feel that only their own software can properly generate the growth that they promise. They may be right, especially if that's the only technology they know how to apply.

We operate sites and support clients using a wide variety of software and technology. We have found that  for a well designed site, and with full access to the presentation and data, it is rare to find it difficult to make significant gains in both visitor traffic and conversion.

There are exceptions, of course, but none should be considered without careful study and a clear sense of why a major change should be made.
 

If your Site Does Not Perform well...

It may have little to do with your shopping cart, content management system, database, or hosting service. 

It may have have a LOT to do with Qualified Traffic.

We all know that a website cannot do much without an acceptable volume of visitors interested in what it promotes ("qualified").

 

If your site has qualifed traffic, but the Conversion Rate is Not Adequate:

Is there a problem with navigation, images, shopping cart abandonment, the message, or general useability? 

Given enough traffic, conversion is the most important metric to focus upon.

We all know this too: A very small increment in the conversion rate equates in earnings to a much larger increase in the number of visitors to a site.

Increasing a conversion rate from .5% to 1%, as is often possible for a site lacking attention to conversion, brings the same result to the bottom line as doubling the traffic.

Consider too, what can happen if you do BOTH - Increase the visitor traffic AND increase the conversion rate!

Have you also considered bundling your site within a modern Content Management System, or adding a CMS to your site? This very often makes really good sense, whether your site is a shopping cart or a site offering services. This is especially attractive when the best content management system(s) are open source, i.e. free!
